Senior Citizen/Disabled Tax Relief Program
The City of Methuen offers the Senior Citizen/Disabled Tax Relief Program, under the direction of the Mayor. Applications are available at:

Applications are available from December 1st to April 1st. Applicants must submit a copy of their Property Tax bill with their application.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must be 60 years or older.
- Applicants may work up to a maximum of 133 and 1/3 hours.
- Applicants must be the assessed owner of the property or have acquired ownership before work is performed.
- If the property is subject to trust, the applicant must have legal title.
- Applicants must be income-eligible and self-declare their eligibility upon request.
- Only one household member may participate per year.
Program Details:
- Applicants will receive a list of positions for which they may apply.
- Placement depends on availability of funds, departmental needs, and applicant skills.
- Work hours must be completed by December 1st.
- Abatements up to $2,000 will be reflected on third/fourth quarter Property Tax bills.
- Uncompleted work hours may be transferred to the following year.

- Recent mortgage statement
- Title insurance
- Property tax bill
- Proof of Residency (Choose One):
- Utility bills (e.g., electricity, water)
- Voter registration card
- Affidavit of residency
- Proof of Income (Choose One):
- Tax returns
- Social Security benefits statement
- Pension or retirement benefits statements
- Recent pay stubs (if employed)
- Other income verification (e.g., annuities, dividends)
- Proof of Tax Payment or Exemption (Choose One):
- Current property tax payment receipt
- Tax exemption letter (if applicable)
- Additional Documentation (if applicable):
- Disability documentation (e.g., physician’s note, SSDI award letter)
- Trust or estate documents
- Completed Application Form (Ensure all fields are completed and signed)
